The current political environment in the US is unlike anything we've seen in the past. Hard ideological divisions among party lines, nuanced issues presented as click-bait and partisan soundbytes, and voters reduced to one-dimensional caricatures by those with opposing views have become commonplace. And, in a time when we have the most access to information in our nation's history, our substantive thoughts and voices are getting lost in the noise. Our representatives regulary show allegiance to party and lobbyists over the people they have been elected to represent.
Pollsition encourages continued political participation without the noise and antagonistic nature of partisan politics by creating a unique mechanism for directed democracy. Users are authenticated for voter eligibility and address, notified about important upcoming legislation on which they're able to record a position, and view aggregated anonymous data that displays the will of the people within a district to both voters and their elected representatives.
I was asked to turn the above ideas into a branded, cohesive iOS app. Working directly with the founder, I created an identity (logo, color palette, and fonts), user flows, wireframes, visual design, and a clickable prototype. The result: a purpose-driven editorial environment, straight-forward onboarding, and an intuitive user interface to discover and act upon legislation.
